Could I have this dance, for the rest of my life?

On Friday was my parents' 40th anniversary! What an amazing accomplishment! I feel like 8 years is amazing and can't even imagine what another 32 years will bring. My Mom and Dad are two of the greatest people I know and it only seemed right to celebrate their happiness with most of their children. We went to dinner at Rustler's Rooste, which I highly recommend. This is my Dad going down the slide into the dining room. We had such a great time and there was no pressure to be quiet (because we're not good at that). There was a country band playing and my brothers were even joining in tapping their silverware with their metal plates! All but one of them are over 30, by the way! The band played a dedication to my parents and a few of us got up to dance with our spouses. We missed Jen and Ron (in labor), Emily and Mark (Indiana), Sherry (night school), and Alex (mission)...maybe next time!
Kimball and Jen
Owen and Janee
Ben and Emily
Louisa and Ed
Matt and Gena
Kaylani and Jake
KC without Sherry...she had school. What a great time we had and I can't wait to see what kind of party another 10 years will bring!

That was a close one!

I don't know what came over the Mr., but he went from never wanting to participate to taking total control. Seriously, we've got to find a happy medium here! It was a rough 2 days not being able to comment on any blogs and especially not being able to comment on my own state of well being. I just wanted to make sure that everyone knew that I was never in any immediate danger and that I held my ground beautifully. Until I started to make dinner last night and the meat I was cooking seriously smelled like a poopy diaper left on the street in the middle of July in Arizona...it was BAD, people! If you can imagine how lovely my house smelled after that, you would have also called it quits and stopped at the nearest Little Caesar's for a hot n' ready. So, he didn't get any of his other demands, just the pizza...and if you know Jake, that's all he was really going for anyway! Hope the lesson is learned...this Mavity don't cater to terrorists!

What the...

So last night after the kids were in bed and my husband was sleeping peacefully after a VERY long day for himself, I left with 3 of my sisters to go visit my other sister who is in the hospital for a few days right now. We stopped at Jamba Juice to get her a smoothie and my phone rings. It's a sleepy Jake asking if I had gotten his text. I hadn't, so he told me to look at it and call him back...Ummm, okay. This is what his text consisted of:

Call me!

Are you serious?

In the seconds that it took me to dial him right back, my mind was reeling over
the possibilities of what could have happened. An intruder? A fight?
Someone stealing our property?
The light fixture falling out of the ceiling and hitting him in the face?
My brother in law even suggested a popped zit gone horribly wrong...
When I got a hold of him the truth was revealed. Jake was sleeping when suddenly he heard a loud BANG! He woke up with an unusually forceful jolt which stood him up to his feet, in bed,
and before he could even comprehend what was happening, the ceiling fan had already unleashed two blows and he was down for the count! Sounds a little too much like Don Quixote, if you ask me. I tried to sound extremely sympathetic, but really? A ceiling fan?
Really, babe? Who stands up in bed?
Maybe I should be the go-to girl when we're planning our self-defense against an intruder.
I can see it now: The masked man enters the bedroom,
ready for a fight, and is up for the challenge, when suddenly he realizes
no fight will be necessary.
Somebody, or something, has been here before and done the dirty work.
The man lay helplessly in bed with blood dripping from his face...

Raegan's Random Ramblings...

I've contemplated for a while now about adding a new feature with the above title. I'm thinking about posting an RRR once a week because this child seriously comes up with some of the strangest things to say...I absolutely love it! This is what out dialogue was today:
Rae (while eating a pickle): "Mom, do pickles give us freckles?" Me: "Ummm, I'm not really sure. Why?" Rae: "They sound a lot alike. I sure hope they give me freckles. I like them, but not pickles. I'll eat a lot though if they give me freckles." Me: "Don't worry, I'm sure you'll get plenty of freckles soon enough." Rae: "I hope so." In other news, I had my ultrasound yesterday and the baby is still there and growing healthy. We, of course, didn't find out what we're having, but just to tempt fate, I have the results in an envelope taped to my fridge. It doesn't even bother me, but it has already driven some people crazy just knowing that it's there. Any guesses on how long it takes before somebody breaks?

Another year has started...

It's official, Blake is truly a first grader.
This morning was much more composed than last year.
He went to full day kindergarten, so first grade was cake. Jake had a late day today so he got to come do the whole routine with us.
We found Blake's room and left his backpack by the door.
Then we got to go to the BiG KiD PlAyGrOuNd!
No more kindergarten playground for this kid!
He quickly found some familiar faces from last year and they picked up where they had left off.
Gerardo was even there...we weren't sure if he would be.
They're not in the same class, but definitely will be buds at recess.
What a great kid...
I can't believe our days are once again prince-less.
Love you, buddy!

Where to begin?

Just to let everyone know (especially myself) that I'm still alive, here's my latest update. Still preggers and feeling sicker than I was with any of the other 3. People keep asking me how far along I am (15 weeks) and they get all excited for me because I'll "soon be out of the puking stage" but I'm beginning to wonder, when is "soon"? This pregnancy has proven to be far different from my other three and I just don't know what date I can count on to start feeling any better. I actually got the IV threat from my doctor last week. He gave me one last option of meds to try and if it didn't work, I was to go to the ER and get and IV. You better believe that I'm "feeling better"...how do you fit that into a schedule of summer fun activities? Enough with the complaints, I got to schedule my ultrasound yesterday and that's exciting to look forward to. Don't get your hopes up because we're still not finding out what we're having, just anxious to see that it's a healthy baby. So, don't count on any public gender announcements until January 2009 when that baby comes to meet the family. Sorry, but not really. It's so fun to be surprised! In other news, Blake had a birthday and turned 6 and the next day Sarah turned 3. Pictures soon to come. We also had a great trip to Mexico where the weather was beautiful and the water was even better! Who knew it could get any better that it is in March? My lack of energy has prevented me from editing or uploading any of the pictures, but soon enough, I promise. Sarah wanted her ears pierced for her birthday so I took her to do that today. Her cute cousin Alyssa who is just 4 weeks older than her went with us and held her hand the whole time. Sarah picked out the same little pink daisies that Alyssa has and they're just two little cute twinner cousins! It was slightly traumatic for Sarah once they had done the first ear and she actually grasped what the concept of pierced ears entailed, but she was too determined to quit. One look in the mirror at that sparkler, and she had her game face on, ready for more! it was very cute and quite impressive at her determination. I can't believe that my boy is 6 and my baby girl is 3. Where does all the time go?
